AI Medical Scribe vs Human Scribe

Human scribes and AI scribes solve the same problem in different ways, and neither is universally better.
Judgment and context: a trained human scribe can ask a clarifying question, follow a specialty workflow, and notice when something was said that does not belong in the chart. An AI scribe only has the transcript and the template.
Availability and scaling: an AI scribe is available whenever you record and does not need scheduling, training time or coverage for sick days. A human scribe is a staffing decision.
Consistency: with a fixed template an AI scribe produces the same structure every time. A human scribe's output varies with training and experience.
Privacy and data flow: a human scribe is a person in or near the room under your organization's policies. An AI scribe sends audio and text through software services, so you need to know where the data goes and how long it is kept.
Oversight: with either, the clinician reviews and signs. AI drafts can contain errors in a different pattern from human ones, such as a plausible-sounding but wrong detail, so review habits matter.
Cost depends on your setup and volume. Compare on your own numbers rather than on a headline price.
